Objective: Ensure reliable power supply for Mfangano Island.

  • New Generator: A brand-new MPMC 500KVA generator was installed on January 29th, 2025.
  • Additional Generators: 2x500KVA enclosed diesel generators were installed at the Mfangano Power Station.
  • Acknowledgements: Special thanks to the late Convenor Caleb Ginarah, Convenor Walter Mtindi, and KPLC General Manager Eng. Geofrey Muli for making this a reality.
  • Community Gratitude: The arrival of the generator marks the end of a long-awaited journey, "Olugendo Lwifu".

Solar Power for Educational Institutions

Solar Power

Objective: Provide sustainable solar power to all educational institutions on Mfangano Island.

  • Project Scope: Solar power installations for all public primary schools, secondary schools, and adult education centers.
  • Cost: Ksh 120 million plus VAT, to be deployed in phases over 5 years.
  • Funding Request: Annual allocation of Ksh 26.4 million (including 10% annual cost adjustments) plus VAT.
  • Private Schools: Discounted group quotes provided by the installer.
  • Status: Proposal submitted to NG-CDF office and delivered to Hon. MP Millie in June 2024. Follow-up ongoing.
